Polish Committee of National Liberation (Lublin Committee)
22 Jul 1944 – 26 Jul 1944 · Chełm, then Lublin
The Polish Committee of National Liberation was proclaimed on 22 July 1944 in Chełm and installed in Lublin on 26 July, where it became known as the Lublin Committee. It was chaired by Edward Osóbka-Morawski of the Polish Socialist Party and was Soviet-sponsored and controlled, dominated by Polish communists. It operated in opposition to the Polish government-in-exile in London, which the Western Allies recognised. At the end of December 1944 it was reconstituted as the Provisional Government of the Republic of Poland, which the Soviet Union formally recognised in January 1945.
