Discussion rules
The Atlas is a place to study history together. We argue about interpretations, based on sources — not about whether documented crimes happened.
What we expect
- Be factual and cite sources where possible (link + quote).
- Distinguish facts from interpretation and from alternative scenarios (mark those with the 'Alternative scenario' type).
- Respect people from other countries — a country flag does not make anyone a spokesperson for a nation.
- Remember the victims: civilian suffering is not material for jokes or 'points'.
What is forbidden
- Incitement to violence and threats.
- Glorifying genocide, war crimes and their perpetrators.
- Extremist propaganda, including the use of historical symbols and material as propaganda (they are acceptable in scholarly and educational context).
- Antisemitism, racism and other hate speech.
- Denying or distorting well-documented crimes (including the Holocaust) — this is not an 'equally valid interpretation'.
- Spam, advertising, impersonation, publishing other people's personal data.
Moderation
- Any comment can be reported. Moderators review reports, and every decision is logged.
- We do not remove substantive posts merely because they offer a different interpretation.
- A hidden comment stays in the thread as a marker; the author is notified with the reason.
- You can appeal a decision by writing to the contact address in the privacy policy.
- Serious or repeated violations can lead to an account block.
Popularity is not proof
- 'Valuable' reactions help find good posts but do not settle historical accuracy. The 'historian' status is granted after verification of qualifications, not for activity.
