Battle of Narva (1944)

2 Feb 1944 – 10 Aug 1944 · Narva and the Sinimäed hills

After the relief of Leningrad the Red Army reached the Narva river in early February 1944 but was held for months by German Army Detachment 'Narwa', including Estonian, Dutch, Danish and Norwegian SS volunteers. Narva was abandoned on 26 July and the fighting shifted to the Tannenberg Line in the Sinimäed hills, where the Soviet attacks stalled until the general German withdrawal from Estonia in September.
