The Soviet Union attacked Finland after Finland refused territorial demands. Despite heavy Soviet losses and the League of Nations expelling the USSR, Finland had to accept the Moscow Peace Treaty, ceding about a tenth of its territory, including most of Karelia and Viipuri (Vyborg).
