Battles of Narvik

Fighting for the ice-free port through which Swedish iron ore was shipped. Two naval battles destroyed ten German destroyers; Norwegian, British, French and Polish troops recaptured the town on 28 May 1940, but evacuated it in early June because of the defeat in France.
