Operation Crusader
18 Nov 1941 – 30 Dec 1941 · Sidi Rezegh and Cyrenaica
The British 8th Army attacked on 18 November 1941 to relieve Tobruk and destroy the Axis armour in Cyrenaica. After confused tank battles around Sidi Rezegh and Rommel's 'dash to the wire', the besieged garrison linked up with the 8th Army on 27 November. Rommel abandoned the siege on 7 December and retreated to El Agheila by the end of the year.
