Siege of Tobruk
10 Apr 1941 – 27 Nov 1941 · Tobruk, Libya
After Rommel's first advance across Cyrenaica, the Australian 9th Division and British units in the fortress of Tobruk were cut off on 10 April 1941. The garrison repulsed repeated Axis assaults and was supplied by sea; from August the Polish Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade took over part of the perimeter. The siege was lifted on 27 November 1941 when the defenders linked up with the 8th Army during Operation Crusader.
