Germany and Italy declare war on the United States
11 December 1941 · Berlin
Four days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hitler announced in the Reichstag on 11 December 1941 that Germany was at war with the United States; Italy declared war the same day. The decision turned the European war into a genuinely global conflict and brought American industrial and military power fully against the Axis in Europe.
