Atlantic Charter

Roosevelt and Churchill met on 9–12 August 1941 in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland; Churchill arrived on HMS Prince of Wales and Roosevelt received him aboard USS Augusta. Their joint declaration of eight clauses covered no territorial gains, self-determination, lower trade barriers, global economic cooperation, freedom from fear and want, freedom of the seas and disarmament of aggressor nations. It was released on 14 August 1941 from the US naval base at Argentia and was never signed. Allied nations adopted its principles in the Declaration by United Nations of 1 January 1942.
