Commanded the 10th Motorised Cavalry Brigade in 1939 and in France in 1940, then formed the 1st Polish Armoured Division in Scotland. At Falaise in August 1944 it closed the pocket at Mont Ormel; it went on to liberate Breda and take Wilhelmshaven.
