Siege of Sevastopol (1941–1942)

30 Oct 1941 – 4 Jul 1942 · Sevastopol, Crimea

Manstein's 11th Army, with Romanian support, reached the fortress of Sevastopol at the end of October 1941 but failed to take it in December. The final assault began on 7 June 1942 with the heaviest siege artillery of the war, including the 800 mm gun 'Dora'. The city fell on 4 July 1942; most of the Soviet garrison was captured.
