Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes Offensive)
16 Dec 1944 – 25 Jan 1945 · Ardennes (Belgium and Luxembourg)
Germany's last major offensive in the West aimed to split the Allied armies and retake Antwerp. It achieved surprise in bad weather and created a deep 'bulge', but was stopped short of the Meuse; the defence of Bastogne and Allied counterattacks restored the front by late January 1945.
