Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

19 Apr 1943 – 16 May 1943 · Warsaw Ghetto

When German forces entered the ghetto to deport its remaining inhabitants to the Treblinka extermination camp, Jewish fighters of the ŻOB and ŻZW resisted. The Germans burned the ghetto block by block; on 16 May 1943 Jürgen Stroop ordered the Great Synagogue blown up and declared the action over. It was the largest Jewish uprising during the Holocaust.
