Treblinka prisoner revolt
2 August 1943 · Treblinka extermination camp
On 2 August 1943 the underground among the Jewish prisoners of the Treblinka extermination camp seized weapons from the armoury, set buildings on fire and stormed the fences. Of roughly 700 prisoners several hundred broke out, but only about 70 survived the war. The camp, where some 800,000 Jews had been murdered, was dismantled in the following months.
