Saar Offensive
7 Sept 1939 – 16 Sept 1939 · Saarland
On 7 September 1939 French forces advanced a few kilometres into the Saarland, occupying a strip of abandoned villages in front of the Westwall. The offensive was halted on 12 September and the troops were withdrawn to the Maginot Line by mid-October after the collapse of Poland. It was the only Allied land operation against Germany during the Polish campaign.
