Dieppe Raid (Operation Jubilee)

On 19 August 1942 about 6,000 troops, mostly of the Canadian 2nd Division with British commandos, landed at the port of Dieppe. The raid failed within hours: over 3,600 Allied soldiers were killed, wounded or captured and the RAF lost 106 aircraft. The lessons shaped planning for the Normandy landings.
