Coventry Blitz
14 Nov 1940 – 15 Nov 1940 · Coventry
On the night of 14–15 November 1940 some 500 Luftwaffe bombers attacked Coventry, an industrial city in the English Midlands. Around 568 people were killed, the medieval St Michael's Cathedral was destroyed and large parts of the city centre burned. The raid became a symbol of the bombing of civilians; the Germans coined the verb 'coventrieren' for the destruction of a city.
