Case Blue — German summer offensive 1942
28 Jun 1942 – 24 Nov 1942 · Southern Russia: Voronezh, Don and Caucasus
Germany's 1942 summer offensive opened on 28 June with a thrust towards Voronezh and the Don. In July Hitler split the forces: Army Group B advanced on Stalingrad while Army Group A drove into the Caucasus towards the oilfields, reaching Maikop and the foothills of the Caucasus. The offensive overstretched the Wehrmacht and ended with the encirclement of the 6th Army at Stalingrad.
