Battle of the Atlantic

3 Sept 1939 – 8 May 1945 · North Atlantic

The longest continuous military campaign of the war: Germany tried to cut Britain's sea supply lines with U-boats, surface raiders and aircraft, while the Allies organised convoys, air cover and anti-submarine warfare. The turning point came in May 1943, when U-boat losses forced Germany to withdraw its wolf packs from the North Atlantic.
